We are Sylvia's parents. We haven't posted on this blog as we're not bloggers but we would love to hear from anyone who knew Sylvia and has a story to tell - funny, sad, irreverant, about food, green politics, knitting, whatever! Sylvia's tastes were eclectic and we know her friends were also.An update from us: we spent 3 days over Christmas holidays with Sylvia's friends in Cleveland. Wonderful people. We spent time in Connecticut and saw Sylvia's grave stone for the first time. Very hard to look at but it has a flower and butterfly on the back side. We'll post some pictures on the website. We both returned to work in October. Hard to do but necessary and in some way good for us. We miss Sylvia so very much but cherish our memories of her - and yours. Please add to this blog.

Dear Barry and Susan
ReplyDeleteThank you for having taken the time to capture this movement and post it online on this blog (Thanks also to Dorothy for creating the blog!). I often come to this site to watch the "Sylvia's hands" movie while singing "Making a pie" by Patty Griffin (Sylvia had included some of her songs on a CD she gave me to listen to on my way to work. You sent us this video with this tune last september. I can't thank you enough!
Love from both of us
Francoise
NB: I am writing to you on April 22 2010: Sylvia would have been 23 today. We are commemorating her birthday with an open house /Haiti fundraiser at our house this week-end.
Hi Barry and Susan
ReplyDeleteThank you for having taken the time to capture these moments with Sylvia and post them on this blog! Also many thanks to Dorothy for creating the blog. I am writing on April 22, 2010. Sylvia would have turned 23 today. Her spirit lives on. We all feel inspired to live better, to enjoy life and make sure we contribute positively to this world. Sylvia's success will be realized through her many friends, young cousins, my own students. She touched many lives and for that we are grateful.
Love
Francoise
Hi Steve and Francois,
ReplyDeleteI think it was Thanksgiving 2008, but it might have been earlier: Sylvia told me that it was a tragedy that Virginia Woolf had died prematurely. Likewise, it is a tragedy that Sylvia should die not just prematurely, but young.
