Comments from Francoise Blusseau and Steve Bingham

3 comments:

  1. Francoise wrote to Rita Lewis (whose daughter was at the French School with Sylvie) on Saturday, Sept. 19th saying she and Steve are staying strong thanks to the outpouring of support from so many people in Cleveland, especially from Hillary and from Alex and his family.(Alex had been Sylvia's boyfriend and Hillary was Sylvia's best friend.)

Steve and Francoise are now in Connecticut with family after spending 2 days in Cleveland.

Sylvia will be buried at the family cemetery at the Bingham camp (Steve's grandmother summer house).

A memorial service for Sylvia will be held at the Bingham camp on Sunday September 27 and another will be held in the Bay Area soon.

Steve and Francoise plan to be back to California on October 3rd.

subject: [sylviabingham] Request from Stephen & Francoise "In Lieu of Flowers"

We would much prefer that, in lieu of flowers, if people want to make
a donation in Sylvia's memory right away, they should donate to Hard
Hatted Women http://www.hardhattedwomen.org/ where Sylvia had just
started working. She loved the place. It has a wonderful tribute to
Sylvia on its website. The director spoke this morning from the steps
of the office where the memorial bike ride for Sylvia ended, having
following her route from home to work, dropping flowers at the site of
the accident. Over 70 people participated.

Shortly the Sylvia Bingham Foundation will be set up to promote bike
and driver education and safety practices. If people prefer, they can
hold any donation they wish to make until the foundation is set up or
an alternative foundation has agreed to accept donations on its behalf
pending the SB Foundation getting tax exempt status.

Thanks for letting people know about these alternatives to flowers.

    Stephen and Francoise

  3. Francoise and I want to thank from the bottom of our hearts all those who have reached out to us in this time of unspeakable grief. It has been such a comfort. We are especially grateful to the core group that has set up and maintained the sylviabinghamfoundation.org website and this blogspot. We want to keep Sylvia's memory alive and also work creatively to dramatically improve street safety. We will be counting on all of you for support in these efforts.
Love to all, Steve and Francoise.
